A Campaign to Keep Public Lands in Public Hands

Across the country, powerful interests are working to dismantle the protections that safeguard America’s public lands, opening the door to privatization, unchecked development, and the loss of our shared natural heritage. NOT FOR SALE is a national public art and storytelling campaign designed to stop them.

What began in Montana—a frontline in the fight for conservation—has grown into a bold, rapidly expanding movement. Through iconic interventions, daily storytelling from those closest to the land, and urgent calls to action, this campaign is mobilizing communities to stand up for public lands, Indigenous rights, and climate justice.

Thanks to massive public pressure, one of the largest land selloffs in U.S. history was just stopped. But the attacks continue. The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge remains under threat. Nearly 60 million acres of National Forests are on the line as protections are stripped away. Monument designations across the country are being challenged in court and behind closed doors.

Our message is clear: These lands belong to all of us. Once they’re sold off, we don’t get them back.
