Amplifying Native Voices
Voting is a fundamental right, but for many Native communities, it’s far from accessible. Long travel distances to polling sites, lack of traditional mailing addresses, language barriers, and restrictive voter ID laws create barriers that are more than just inconveniences—they are deliberate obstacles that suppress Native voices. Despite systemic disenfranchisement, Native communities remain steadfast in their connection to the land and their pursuit of equal access to democracy. Native people have always been here, and their strength and resilience continue to shape our country.
In 2024 Amplifier and Illuminative teamed up to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Native Americans gaining the right to vote. This collaboration celebrates Native leadership by supporting grassroots organizations in key swing states and highlights the challenges that Native voters continue to face through storytelling, infographics, and cultural interventions. We sought to empower Native voters to exercise their rights during this crucial presidential election season by commissioning original artwork and designing strategic public art campaigns to raise awareness and mobilize Native voters
Beyond awareness, this partnership provides essential infrastructure support to five organizations, offering social media toolkits, comprehensive communication plans, and artist collaboration guidance. Together, we’re inspiring action and working toward a future where Native voices are not just heard, but empowered. Through art, education, and collective action, we aim to create lasting change for Native communities in 2024 and beyond.
In partnership with Illuminatives and Natives Vote we worked to support GOTV efforts among indigenous voters in regions where their voices have historically been silenced. Visit their website to learn more about what we are doing to combat voter suppression tactics in states like Michigan, Wisconsin and Arizona.
