The truth about prisons is…there are too many people imprisoned in the United States. One of our earliest campaigns, this collaboration between Amplifier and artist Josh MacPhee draws attention to the corrupt policing and punishing practices in the U.S. that tear families and communities apart every day.
“For racist policy makers, private prison corporation shareholders, and companies that use prison labor, prisons work just fine,” says MacPhee. “In fact, they work exactly as they were intended to.”
The purpose of this artwork is not only to raise awareness about our high incarceration rates, but to call for changes and reform in our criminal justice system–only then can we become the land of the free.
