One of Amplifier’s first commissioned pieces, this 2014 screen print by Chip Thomas/Jetsonorama draws attention to the mass incarceration of people of color in the United States in the era of the new Jim Crow. The artwork was produced in collaboration with #cut50, a national organization centering the voices of those affected by the criminal justice system on a mission to reduce the imprisoned population. Thomas’ piece highlights the disproportionate rate at which Black and Latino men are targeted by the justice system, a discriminatory practice that starts while they are still in school. Amplifier continues to work with #cut50 to promote reformed prison laws as well as justice and dignity for those who are currently incarcerated.
