The War on Drugs of the 1970s and beyond, especially strengthened under the Reagan administration, has incarcerated hundreds of thousands of Americans for non-violent offenses. In collaboration with Cut 50, a nonprofit aiming to reduce the prison population in the U.S., Amplifier and Josh MacPhee created this graphic to demand clemency for first-time drug offenders who have already served 10 years. Amplifier’s team flew to Washington, D.C. to distribute the artwork from this campaign during demonstrations of solidarity with clemency recipients and their families in November of 2016. We believe in finding solutions that offer support rather than punishment to those suffering at the hands of the criminal justice system.
