Tattooed for Peltier
CATEGORY: Indigenous Issues / mass incarceration
#TattooedForPeltier is a campaign created by The Amplifier Foundation and Native American artist Cheyenne Randall (@IndianGiver) to raise awareness for the Free Peltier Movement in partnership with the International Leonard Peltier Defense Committee.
Native American activist Leonard Peltier has spent nearly 40 years in prison for a crime he did not commit. Prosecutors and federal agents manufactured evidence against him; hid proof of his innocence; presented false testimony obtained through torturous interrogation techniques; ignored court orders; and lied to the jury. People are commonly set free due to a single constitutional violation, but Peltier—innocent and faced with a staggering number of these violations—has yet to receive equal justice.
James Franco and other celebrity allies will share images of themselves bearing the tattooed image of Leonard and/or the tattooed wording “FREE LEONARD PELTIER” on their body in their social media streams. The images will also be wheat pasted in large format Xeroxes in cities all over the country. The campaign points viewers to information on how to ask President Obama for Executive Clemency as he leaves office.
YOU can help by asking for clemency for Leonard Peltier.
